IMAGE OF EARTH AND QUILL

Guest Poet Wanda M. Wandas

Snake Charmer

My father listens
at the door
below the floorboards
knows what everyone says
to each other

He can guess the past
predict the future
live in all
but the present
take a walk in the woods

with a forked stick
to snag a snake
crush its head
flip it into the brook
for the fishes

If crossed
he threatens
to shoot himself
never return
from the forest

Wanda M. Wandas's Questions:

1.  Which is the weakest stanza?  Which the strongest?  Why? In other words, is  the imagery strong for you?

2.   Should there be more mystery, or is there enough to maintain interest?

3.  Does the language of "predict the future" sound derived?

Thank You!
