IMAGE OF EARTH AND QUILL

Guest Poet Tariq Masoud

THE SECOND VISIT

(Upon returning to Qatar after 4 years in Minnesota)

Carelessly rolled-up jeans,
cool and wet sand tickling
underneath my feet.
A few coins rattling in
otherwise empty pocket.

Has anything changed ?,
like the taste of salt
upon my tongue ?.
The rumbling surf
breaking on sharp edges
of blackened rocks ?,
or like the silhouette
of fishing boat against
drowsy twilight ?.

A strange smile on the
closed lips of a
sea shell keeps appearing
in the kaleidoscope
of universe.

Tariq Masoud's Questions:

1. Does this piece convey the feeling of returning to a place where I lived all my life?

2. How strong are the images ?

Thank you very much.
