IMAGE OF EARTH AND QUILL

Guest Poet Bridget Weyrick

Slumber

Buried
beneath mud
and shit
the seed waits
permission from life
giving rain
saturate
with the new
Embryo
of possibility
the wonders of God exist
among your walls
tiny universe
Self
contained
perfect
needing no thing
only
re cognition

Bridget Weyrick 's Questions:

I am trying to gain admission into a very competative creative writing program at a certain university.

Here are some examples of what i wanted to send in my portfolio. My question is, are my poems too talky?

I feel that they contain my voice.

Does all good poetry have to be very specific?

And should I submit these, or not?

Thanks.

code red

I bought red nail polish
the other day
code red
I donīt usually wear nail polish
my hands are ugly
it took me five minutes
to decide on a one dollar purchase
attracted and repelled at the same time
Iīd never wear it
it would end up going to waste
taking up space
another token reminder
of all that I am not
its been two days
since I bought red nail polish
I just finished decorating one hand
its bold
loud
demands attention
I am secretly thrilled
the other hand is natural
pure
understated
it doesnīt need all that glitz
its whats inside that counts

isnīt it?
